Server status

Well, this week it was our webserver... and we want to sincerely apologize to all of our users for the inconvenience we may have created for them. Due to a huge increase in traffic coming from our GMap component settings files, we were unable to keep our webserver functioning this week. We've worked very hard to put more resources in place to get back online. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that the worst of the problems are behind us.

We've taken several steps to upgrade our server capacity to avoid future problems. We've moved to an upgraded web server. We've optimized scripts that were causing problems. And we are closely monitoring traffic to make sure we can detect problems like this in the future.

Going forward, in addition to server upgrades and script performance enhancements, we have decided to start an immediate effort to decentralize the settings files for the GMap component. The popularity of GMap has grown to the point that it no longer makes sense for us to control the settings, centrally. For large-scale applications, we will work with you to host your own settings files. This will mean making some changes to your application and following certain steps to maintain tile versions. However, with your own settings files, your application will no longer be tied to our domain.

Note: This outage did not effect UMap, as all settings files, etc are not tied to our domain.
